Note di degustazione
Much deeper and darker than most, with a garnet core and soft rim. Lots of baking spice here – cinnamon and nutmeg and a lovely spicy sweetness, plus something slightly floral. Complex. Malty chocolate texture on the mid palate. For now, a bit abrupt on the finish with a wall of fine tannin. (JH)

Monforte d’Alba. Almost impenetrable ruby with orange tinges. Brooding concentration of dark fruit on the nose. Real power of fruit and tannins on the palate. Very youthful and still a little unsettled. (WS)
The 2012 Barolo Castelletto, Veglio's only Barolo from Monforte, is one of the most complete of these wines, as it usually is. Firm veins of underlying tannins and bright acidity give the Castelletto much of its vibrant, pulsating personality. Menthol, pine, new leather and dark spices are laced into the finish. Most of Veglio's 2012s are quite open, but the Castelletto is going to need a few years in bottle.
