Note di degustazione
With fruit from 70-year-old vines in La Morra, the 2019 Barolo Gattera has aromas that recall cherry or plum, especially dried fruit, over a luminous appearance and medium-bodied mouthfeel. The wine is silky on the close with soft tannins; however, like the other wines in this portfolio, I find the fruit to be less expressive in terms of bouquet. Give this wine a few more years of cellar rest. 9,000 bottles were released.

The 2019 Barolo Gattera is a powerful, broad wine. Even in the new style favored by Veglio today, the Gattera shows its natural breath along with a decidedly dark expression of La Morra. Sweet black cherry, plum, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha all meld together effortlessly. The Gattera offers lovely upfront appeal married to the classicism of the year. That's a pretty appealing combination in my book.
25 days on the skins and aged for two years in French barrique of which 25% was new. Lustrous and just mid ruby. Closed and brooding on the nose, with a hint of black pepper. Gorgeous and fresh on the palate but very backward and just hinting at red currant and raspberry. Firm but attractive tannins add real chew to the whole. The oak is practically indiscernible. Very slow to come out, elegant and complex but patience is needed. (WS)
