The Gaja 2020 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn appears more mineral-driven and timid on first nose. It shows bright, underripe fruit, which is great for it future evolution; however, the mouthfeel proves immediately expressive and generous. There is plenty of fruit to push it forward in time with more bottle age. The whole package is very elegant and fine.

A south-facing, 3.38-ha site of calcareous marls at 260 m just above Costa Russi in Barbaresco itself. Acquired in 1967, wine produced from 1970. It wasn’t made in 2018 and 2019. 50-year-old vines. The land was previously owned by the designer of the Fiat Topolino and the Fiat 500. All Gaja Barbarescos are made in the same way as the Classico. 6,000 bottles made. Already ruby in colour. Really exciting nose with a perfume that's already somewhat evolved and classic structure. Lots of grip after a creamy mid palate. Really pure and amazingly long. Polished tannins. (JR)
'Dry and mild winter and spring, followed by a warm summer with occasional thunderstorms, then cooler days until the harvest.' Poured from magnum. Palish ruby. Similar in style to Costa Russi, but with everything amplified. Beautifully complex and layered raspberry with hints of garden herbs. Transparent and fluid with finely chiselled tannins. Superbly balanced and still very young. (WS)
The 2020 Barbaresco Sorì Tildin is a powerful, deep wine. Dark fruit, leather, spice, tobacco and incense saturate the palate. A Barbaresco of stature and brooding intensity, Sorì Tildin will need a number of years to be at its very best. The 2020 is an unusually somber, dark Sorì Tildin.
