Note di degustazione
The 2021 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a lot of reduction on the nose, suppressing what feels to be attractive red fruit underneath. The palate is a pretty little thing with pliant tannins and vivid red berry fruit, spicier than its peers with ample substance towards the finish. You could broach this now, albeit with considerable decanting to alleviate that reduction, but I would prefer to leave this two or three years because it is armed with potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Bursting with aromas of peonies, rose petals, sweet red berries and musky spices, Clerget's 2021 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with a deep and vibrant core of fruit, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. Along with this year's Rugiens, it's one of the finest wines Thibaud has crafted to date.
The 2021 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru comes from 90-year-old vines and completely de-stemmed, two barrels instead of ten. It has another sensual bouquet with red cherries, wild strawberry and rose petal scents - elegant and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins that frame the bay-infused red fruit, with a touch of black pepper decorating the persistent finish. Excellent.
