The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle Sous La Chapelle was still a little reserved when I tasted it, unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, plums and raw cocoa, framed by a patina of creamy new oak despite only 20% of the barrels being new. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, it's lively and seamless, concluding with a bright finish.
