Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2016-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2016

A wine that brings together finesse and power, the 2004 Barbaresco Camp Gros Martinenga is also a terrific example of the year. Macerated cherry, spice, menthol, tobacco and rose petal are all nicely lifted throughout. The 2004 won't be a long-term ager, but it is super-expressive today, not to mention a real pleasure to drink.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2013-2022, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2008

The 2004 Barbaresco Camp Gros Martinenga is a much larger-scaled wine than the Gaiun. This fresh, vibrant Barbaresco explodes from the glass with a gorgeous array of macerated dark cherries, spices, menthol, pine, minerals and toasted oak. The wine reveals superb depth and clarity, with awesome finesse. This is the finest wine I can recall tasting here in many a year. Camp Gros is made from a parcel adjacent to Rabajà.

Pale cherry with an amber edge. Sexy, perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, minerals, spices, woodsmoke, marzipan and tobacco. Rich and supple but strong, with a tighter grain and a deeper minerality to its flavors than the Gaiun. But there's lovely sweetness to the strawberry and raspberry fruit. Finishes very long, with substantial spicy oak. This one begins in barriques but finishes in Slovenian oak casks. Should evolve slowly in bottle and may well merit a higher score several years down the road. But note that it will not even be released until the fall of 2008.
