The Mauro Veglio 2018 Barolo Paiagallo shows a point of brightness that gives this wine an especially etched or linear performance. Fruit comes from 40-year-old vines and skin maceration times are slightly longer (lasting from 22 to 25 days), giving the wine more power. It wraps smoothly and completely over the palate, imparting sweet fruit, wild rose, blood orange and grilled herb along the way. Aged in large oak casks, the Paiagallo is tight and structured at this young stage, and the wine will loosen up and soften with more time in the bottle. Production is 4,000 bottles.

The 2018 Barolo Paiagallo is delicate, ethereal and beautifully perfumed. Sweet pipe tobacco, orange peel, mint, dried cherry, licorice and incense are all laced together in this very pretty, nuanced Barolo. The Paiagallo is the one Barolo in this range aged in cask.
Barolo. 25 days on the skins and aged only in large oak casks. Lustrous ruby with orange tinges. Savoury, meaty nose and generous fruit with crunchy tannins on the palate. Easy-going and full and still a little embryonic in spite of its fullness. (WS)
