With fruit from a 3.5-hectare vineyard in Monforte d'Alba located at a cool 300 to 400 meters in elevation, the 2018 Barolo Castelletto offers superb elegance and harmony. The wine is made from a special selection of fruit from 30-year-old vines, and like the other Barolos in this portfolio, skin maceration times are standard, lasting from 15 to 20 days. This gives the wine power and personality, yet the Castelletto also maintains a delicate frame and finely tuned aromas that span wild berry and blue flowers.

The 2018 Barolo Castelletto is a powerful, deep wine that is not ready to show all its cards yet. Then again, this is Monforte Barolo we are talking about. Dried herbs, iron chalk, white pepper, crushed flowers and mint all grace this inward, brooding Barolo from Veglio. A whole range of savory, earth and mineral notes abound.
Monforte d'Alba. 20 days on the skins. Concentrated lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Savoury and concentrated with fully integrated oak notes adding a spicy edge to the wine. Plenty of sour-cherry fruit on the palate. Generous and youthful with a layer of long, polished tannins. Perhaps the most approachable of their 2018 Barolos, but also has potential to age. (WS)
