Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2014-2026, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2010

The 2006 Barbaresco Camp Gros is decidedly more virile and masculine than the Gaiun. An elegant, powerful wine, the Camp Gros flows the layers of dark fruit intermingled with mint, pine, spices and a host of other balsamic nuances. I find striking purity and clarity in the glass, not to mention a fabulous sense of harmony. The Camp Gros is easily one of the finest wines from a vintage that have many growers in Barbaresco fits.

Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. Marchesi di Gresy makes a wide range of wines, but it is always the Barbareschi that speak with the greatest eloquence. The estate’s Martingenga vineyard (along with the subplots Gaiun and Camp Gros) is considered one of the very finest sites in Piedmont for first-class Nebbiolo. Importer: Dalla Terra, Napa, CA; tel. Good medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of nutty oak, truffle and earth, with fruit in the background. Broader and fuller than the Gaiun but makes a drier impression on the palate in spite of its impressive volume. Best today on the very full, long, building finish, where the flavors turn sweeter and the tannins are thoroughly buffered by the wine's material.
