Note di degustazione
The 2018 Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru demonstrates some volatility on the nose compared to its peers, slightly masking the attractive red cherry and blueberry fruit underneath. A smear of boot polish becomes evident with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grip on the entry. Good weight in the mouth, though it lacks the nuance and precision of the Clos de la Chapelle and it fades on the aftertaste. Not bad overall. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Bottled at the end of March 2020, the 2018 Volnay En Carelle Sous La Chapelle 1er Cru offers fragrant red berry fruit with veins of blueberry on the nose that becomes increasingly floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. This has more dimension and grip than the 2019 though not the same degree of purity and elegance. Still, it will surely age with style, but you might have to wait 3-5 years.
Aromas of cassis, plums, burning embers, dark chocolate and toasty new oak introduce the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle Sous La Chapelle, a medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny wine, with a fleshy core of fruit, tangy acids and chalky structuring tannins that assert themselves on the finish.
