Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2022-2032, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2018

The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is still a baby, but it possesses striking classicism and nuance. Deep and racy, but also finely sketched, the 2012 is destined to drink beautifully for quite some time. Another year in bottle has only done the 2012 good. Today, the Camp Gros comes across as more structured and classically austere than it did last year.

Pale but a bit dull. Lack of vitality. Just a tiny bit muddy. But thick and dense. Very drying end. (JR)

The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is another attractive wine from Marchesi di Grésy. Unlike most vintages, the 2012 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Blood orange, pomegranate, rose water and spice give the 2012 its decidedly exotic personality. There is good density, but the wine's mid-weight structure suggests it will drink well with minimal cellaring by this wine's standards, as the tannins are quite sweet. Camp Gros is often a more virile wine. In 2012, it is the wine's fresh, red-toned fruit character that stands out most.

The 2012 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga shows the deft hand of the winemaking team and the vineyard managers at this historic estate in Barbaresco. Nebbiolo from this part of the Langhe is known for its slightly softer and more accessible approach. This wine, however, shows an impressive level of complexity and finesse. It changes quickly in the glass, with fluid passages from fruit to spice to mineral aromas. What stands out most is the seamless integration of the wine. It hits all the senses with a united front. Some 6,300 bottles were produced.
