Note di degustazione
The 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru presents a complex bouquet with superb mineralité and precision, though it takes several minutes to hit its stride. The new oak becomes increasingly prominent with aeration until it shrouds the terroir expression. The palate is very well balanced, powerful, citric, delivering presence and weight in the mouth. Muscle and grip follow on the increasingly spicy finish. Sure, this is a bit oaky at the moment, but unquestionably it will come good with time. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Damien Colin produced the equivalent of two and a quarter barrels of the 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru, so he supplemented a once used barrel with a specially ordered one and a quarter barrel for its élevage. Unfurling in the glass with notes of citrus oil, warm bread, green pear, nutmeg and white flowers, the wine is full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with a textural attack, succulent acids, superb concentration and a long, penetrating finish. While this is a little shut down after its recent bottling, this will be quite an extroverted, expressive vintage of Colin's Montrachet.
The 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru remains under the "Domaine Marc Colin" label as Damien Colin’s father wished for it to remain linked with the name. There are just two barrels, a regular barrel and a specially made 200-litre barrel. It has a beautiful bouquet with Mirabelle, honeysuckle, orange blossom and crushed stone aromas. The 50% new oak is seamlessly integrated since it undergoes a 5-year toasting. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, taut and linear at the moment but very long. It is certainly tightly coiled but the elegance here cannot be denied even at this early stage. Superb. (DIAM closure)
