Bright yellow with a green tinge. Aromas of nectarine, white pepper and spices are lifted by a hint of lavender. Brisk, energetic wine with noteworthy definition and delicacy to its complex flavors of citrus fruits and crushed-stone minerality. Very fresh for 2016, showing no dried-fruit character. This infant still needs time to knit but should evolve gracefully. Finishes very long and scented.

The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret has a clean and fresh bouquet with apple blossom and granitic scents, though I find it not as vivid as a 2014 might have been. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity and satisfying depth although, like the Meursault Perrières, I would like to see more terroir and tension develop on the finish. I just want it to express its origins more clearly.

Bright light yellow. Less expressive on the nose than the Meursault Perrières, offering musky lemon and an element of stony minerality complicated by a suggestion of smoky oak. Creamy and thick; a bit heavier and less harmonious than the Meursault Perrières despite its pungent minerality and strong stony quality. Finishes distinctly more phenolic and chewy, with a firm edge.
