Note di degustazione
Dark and brooding, the 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots offers up an earthy bouquet of black plums, licorice, cassis and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich and sun-kissed, with considerable structure and power, with some suggestions of baked, roasted fruit combined with depth and latent sumptuousness that evoke the style of the 1990 red Burgundy vintage.

(13.5% alcohol; 20% new oak; the estate owns two parcels of vines in Santenots, one 15 and the other 70 years of age, and plans to pull up the old vines this year): Deep red with ruby tones. Liqueur-like black raspberry, dark cherry and bitter chocolate on the nose. Very ripe, full, powerful Volnay; quite chewy and sappy, with captivating saline soil character and a rather massive tannic structure that calls for patience. More dominated by the vintage than most of the other 2015s at this address.
The 2015 Volnay Santenots is a total rock-star wine. The personality of this site comes through beautifully in an ample, extroverted wine that also clearly has the shoulders to handle all of its natural intensity. Ripe red cherry, smoke, raspberry jam and lavender are some of the many nuances that develop, but above all else, the Santenots is a wine of balance and pedigree. Don't miss it.
Cask sample. Bright crimson. Very charming nose with ripe fruit and perfume in the ascendant. Lots of both acid and tannin – enthusiastic extraction! Strong statement once more. Dry finish. (JR)
