Pale, green-tinged yellow. Subdued, slightly reduced nose combines fresh pear, lemon, white peach and menthol scents. Dense, tightly wound and saline; shows very good definition and lift but not the early personality--or depth--of the Champgains. Youthfully closed but essentially pliant, finishing with a touch of youthful bitterness.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers was more expressive on the nose compared to the Maltoie: tropical scents of pineapple and passion fruit, a hint of almond in the background with decent delineation. The palate is fresh on the entry with just a touch of bitter lemon lending tension. This has more energy, more verve than the Maltroie and it finishes with good salinity and persistence. That's more like it! This comes recommended.
(this wine, from 15-year-old vines, had recently finished its malo): Pale yellow-green color. Sexy aromas of musky yellow fruits and white flowers convey an impression of lift. Tactile, saline and classically dry; less forthcoming than the previous samples but nicely concentrated and savory. Finishes with a spearmint note. Incidentally, these vines were "killed" by the late-April frost in 2016, according to Michel Coutoux, who told me that "if we make 20% to 25% of a normal crop in '16, I'll be happy."
