Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2025-2055, Neal Martin, Mar 2023

The 2015 Montrachet Grand Cru was deeply impressive after bottling, but this bottle surpassed those predictions. Taut, mineral and frankly spellbinding on the nose, this is a proper Grand Cru that rivets you to the spot. Maybe the 2014 has just slightly more delineation? The palate is taut, with flecks of white chocolate complementing the white peach and citrus fruit. Fabulous, penetrating tension on the finish lights up your senses. Magnificent. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.

The 2015 Montrachet Grand Cru is showing a little reduction on the nose but there is real power and intensity here, plus wonderful delineation as it responds and opens in the glass. The palate is balanced with a viscous opening and hints of white chocolate and almond, but is initially just a little blowsy. Crucially, this Montrachet only comes into its own after an hour in the glass, finally rediscovering its tension and race. From the lowly score I gave it blind, it fully deserves a much more generous score after the tasting. Give this a serious decant if possible, or better still, cellar it for several more years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)

A bold, dramatic wine, the 2015 Montrachet Grand Cru exhibits a rich bouquet of ripe peaches, white flowers, honeycomb and toasty new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ripe and almost unctuous, though it gains tension in the glass and concludes with an attractively chalky finish. There's plenty of depth and concentration here, and I suspect it will be more interesting with a few years' bottle age.
