Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2023-2038, Neal Martin, Oct 2023

The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru, picked late in October, has an attractive nose, a little Chablis in style with a menthol trait that I found in the 2013 from Domaine Marc Colin. Moderate complexity. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, fine weight, lightly spiced with lime and stem ginger. This gains density and precision toward the finish and demonstrates fine persistence. Excellent.

Pale, bright yellow. More floral and initially less yellow-fruity than the Maltroie, but a ripe peach quality emerged with aeration. Displays ripe fruits and flowers with air, with nicely integrated acidity leading to a tight finish featuring brisk notes of lemon and mandarin orange. Moreau's vines are planted on rocky soil on the north side of the cru, which he says always produces fruit with good acidity and low pH.

In bottle. Quite strong struck-match character. Very nervy and racy with vibrant fruit underneath. Most attractive with a substantial undertow that is relatively rare. Slightly minty. (JR)

The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Vergers, which debuted in 2002 and comes from purchased grapes, was taken from tank and will be bottled next February/March. Matured in around 25 to 30% new oak, it has a floral bouquet: hints of white flowers accompanying the citrus fruit dallying with walnut. The palate is lively and citric on the entry with orange zest and Clementine notes, the acidity taut and lending linearity toward the long, shaved ginger-tinged finish. This should be a delight once in bottle.
