Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2015, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Oct 2015

Back in 2001, Pierre Rovani advised drinking the 1999 Chevalier Montrachet over the next six years. It was sage advice because tasted blind, it felt past its best. Clearly deeper in color than its peers, there is a potent Chenin Blanc-like, wet wool-tinged bouquet. The palate is waxy in texture with smoked walnut and dried quince, with decent weight in the mouth but slightly oxidative and lacking freshness on the finish. It was not unlike a mature Tondonia Blanco, but that's not what I want from a bottle of Chevalier Montrachet! Drink up if you own any bottles.

Apricot, wet stone and nuts on the nose. Dense, fat and oaky, with a strong flavor of caramel. Fills the mouth, but I don't find the structure and class of this grand cru. Finishes with a strong note of clove. A big, rich wine but I'd never pick this blind as Chevalier-Montrachet.
