The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Grands Ruchottes 1er Cru is a little richer on the nose than its peers and, as such, does not quite have the same degree of delineation or precision. Just a bit heavy-handed, although bottle age might address that issue. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Just a subtle tang of marmalade with candied orange peel and stem ginger, the finish cohesive and reassuringly persistent. Very fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Aromas of white flowers, pear, hazelnuts and peach introduce the 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes, a full-bodied, concentrated and pure wine with a satiny attack that segues into a deep, layered mid-palate that's girdled by racy acids. Long and resonant, this tiny old-vine cuvée is worth a special effort to seek out.
