Punteggio 93/100 · William Kelley (Robert Parker), Jun 2025

This is a relatively new addition to the Prunotto portfolio. The 2021 Barolo Serra (tasted from barrel) did not fully open during my tasting. Fruit comes from a 1.65-hectare east-facing slope in Serralunga d'Alba at 350 to 390 meters in elevation. This wine maintains a lean- to medium-body consistency with faint fruit and floral aromas. This 6,000-bottle release will go to market in September 2025.

Moving to the single crus, the 2021 Barolo Serra leads with seductive notes of leather, anise, orange peel, and raspberries. The palate has a medium-bodied frame but picks up a saturating feel on the palate, with ripe, well-defined tannins, salty earth, and refreshing acidity. It has the structure to age over the coming 12-15 years.

The 2021 Barolo Serra is another very classy, polished wine in this range from Prunotto. Brisk acids and beams of supporting tannin give the Serra its brilliant, focused personality. This taut, somewhat nervy Barolo could certainly benefit from a few years in bottle.

Light in color but not intensity, this red is elegant, lacy and well-structured. Green olive, cherry, rose and wild rosemary flavors are underscored by a mineral element, while the texture remains silky and the aftertaste long and juicy. Best from 2028 through 2043. 1,947 cases imported.
