The amazing 1995 Barolo Mosconi Per Cristina Riserva (aged in 100% new oak, and lovingly named after Clerico's seven-year old daughter who died tragically) is the richest, most complete of these offerings. This debut vintage offers up kirsch, Chinese black tea, flowers, licorice, and subtle spicy new oak. Amazingly rich and full-bodied, with terrific purity, symmetry, and length, it can be drunk now, but should be even better with 2-3 years of cellaring; it will keep for 12-15 years. One of the most gifted winemakers in Piedmont, Domenico Clerico has fashioned this riveting wine from the vineyards surrounding the village of Monforte d'Alba. Clerico utilizes rotary fermenters, and new oak. This a wine of extraordinary richness, amazing aromatics, and a sensual personality that satiates both the hedonistic and intellectual senses. Good deep red. More vibrant, red-fruity aromas complicated by notes of mace and caramel. Firm, fruity and intensely flavored; less complex than the last two bottles but also less evolved. Perhaps even more concentrated. Nicely integrated acidity lends clarity to the flavors. Structured, firmly tannic and long. Clerico has made a superb trio of '95 Barolos.
