Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2029-2040, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2026

Tank sample. Generous and full and fleshy in the mouth. Ripe stone-fruit flavours balanced by crisp acidity. Certainly needs another couple of years to settle down – there is lots of potential given time. Has an edge of sourness on the finish which will be cleaned up once in bottle. Will be a classic grand cru. (AWH)

Derived from east- and west-facing parcels and matured for a year in used Chassin barrels before spending six months in tank, Samuel Billaud’s 2024 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir opens in the glass with a bouquet of pear, beeswax, peach and lemon oil mingling with white flowers. On the palate, it’s medium- to full-bodied, deep and layered, with considerable underlying tension and tangy acids, culminating in a long, precise finish.

Own vines from two plots on different sides of the valley, so one gets the morning sun and the other the afternoon sun. 100% in 3- and 4-year-old barrels, 456 litres and 500 litres. Vat sample. The aroma is more subtle than on the Blanchot but still expressive for such a young wine. Slightly smoky and very creamy. Intense, crisp, bone dry and stony with a very long, high-acid finish. Mouth-watering and rich at the same time. (JH)

Made from 35-40 years old vines. A stunning bouquet, ripe lemons and limes, high class apple, a perfectly balanced ripeness, almost a floral perfume but avoiding any of the over sunny notes. Excellent energy. Really a stunning balance on the palate, I don’t see how you could do better. Such a cool white fruit.
