The 2020 Volnay En Lurets 1er Cru clearly has more extraction on the nose with high-toned, quite opulent black cherries, cassis and violet scents. The 2020 is very floral and Syrah-like. The palate is very ripe and plush, quite a modern Volnay with saturated tannins and velvety smooth, but it occludes much in the way of terroir expression. It feels just a little conservative and linear on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Aromas of dark berries, rich spices, loamy soil and rose petals preface the 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Les Lurets, a medium to full-bodied, deep and nicely concentrated wine built around chalky tannins and tangy acids. It's turning out very nicely.

Having established Domaine des Comtes Lafon as one of the finest addresses in Burgundy, Dominique Lafon set up an eponymous négociant business in 2008. The vines are all farmed by the Lafon team and the wines generally leaner than those of Comtes Lafon, with less new oak.
