2020 Volnay Caillerets

The 2020 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru contains 25% new oak, which is more than normal but obliged by small volumes both in this vintage and in 2021. Using 30% whole bunch, this has a very well defined bouquet with vibrant red berry fruit, although granted, it will require some bottle age to absorb the wood. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fine acidity, very sensual and finessed with a pure and seductive, silky-smooth finish. This will be difficult to resist in its youth. Superb.
