The 2000 Barolo Giachini is close to or fully mature. Tobacco, earthiness, cedar, truffles and autumn leaves suggest the wine is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. These wines were made before brothers Renato and Giuliano Corino had divided their family’s estate. Today the Rocche is made by Renato. Each brother bottles a Vecchie Vigne (old-vine) Barolo, but the vines that inform the 2000 currently belong to Giuliano.
The 2000 Barolo Giachini, from the firm’s home vineyard, is the best of the single-vineyard bottlings, sweet and full in aroma, large-framed and supple in flavor, sizeable but elegant on its lengthy finish. Medium red. Aromas of plum, tobacco, spices, tar and nutty oak. Sweet, mellow and plummy; suave and ripe, with a subtle penetrating quality. Quite plush for this bottling chez Corino. Finishes with dusty tannins that arrive late.
