The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet of light tropical fruit infused with touches of pressed white flowers. There is a very slight reduction, but it works well. The palate is well balanced, with a fat, slightly honeyed opening, a fine thread of acidity, and hints of praline and almond that linger in the mouth long after the wine has departed. This is a generous, flavorsome Chassagne-Montrachet that is probably best broached in the flush of youth. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

(13.7% alcohol): Bright yellow-green. Subtle, reticent aromas of citrus fruits, white peach and mint. Possesses good texture and thickness but comes across as racy and tight today, even a bit lean for this bottling. Nicely penetrating and energetic but I wanted a bit more pliancy for the year. Finishes with a firm citrus edge that calls for patience.

Highly aromatic but less immediately fruity than the St-Aubin Les Combes. A lovely leesy depth of aroma and promise. Could do with a little more intensity on the mid palate but it lingers nicely. (JH)

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers is one of Philippe's favourites this year. It was showing the most reduction from the five Chassagne premier crus that I tasted with Philippe Colin. Just traces of citrus fruit and a touch of flint. The palate is harmonious right from the start, rounded in the mouth albeit missing some acidity and race towards the finish. It just found the Maltoie and the Clos Saint-Jean display more tension at the moment, but let's see how it turns out in bottle.
