This is a terrific wine, both opulent and generous. The 2016 Maremma Toscana Tenuta Belguardo is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc that adopts a playfully rich and contemporary style with plenty of southern Tuscan sunshine locked deep within the dark ripeness and softness of the fruit. This vintage, with its hot sunny days and cool nights, delivers precision and balance throughout. This is the top-end wine from the Mazzei family's property, Tenuta Belguardo, along the Tuscan Coast.

The 2016 Tenuta Belguardo is a potent wine that needs time in bottle to shed some of its formidable tannins. Dark cherry, mocha, menthol, licorice, spice and smoke give this dense Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc blend tons of character. I get the feeling there is more here.
