Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2017-2029, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2017

The 2005 Barolo Le Vigne is high toned and lifted, with classic Nebbiolo notes of violets, Asian spices, white pepper, and licorice, with lots of plum and black cherry fruit. Full-bodied, elegant and layered on the palate, with eighth acidity and a great, lengthy finish, it's beautiful today yet has another decade (or more) of prime drinking.

The 2005 Barolo Le Vigne has held on to a bit more freshness than the Cannubi Boschis. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, mint and licorice are some of the signatures. Today, the 2005 is particularly expressive. It should drink well for another decade-plus.

Mid crimson. Complex, already very integrated aromas. Dry, quite demanding finish. Drying end. I’d drink this relatively soon. (JR)

Sandrone's 2005 Barolo Le Vigne (Library Release) is approaching the early part of its peak drinking window. The fruit is beginning to take on hints of tertiary complexity in a Barolo that is quite expressive although a bit slender and less finessed than the very best vintages. Admittedly, that is a very high bar here. Hints of leather, smoke, pine, licorice and menthol add complexity on the dark, brooding finish. With time in the glass, the 2005 opens up nicely, but my preference is to drink it sooner rather than later. The 2005 was made from a number of parcels; Vignane (Barolo), Conterni and Ceretta (Monforte) and Merli (Novello).
