The 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot has a pretty bouquet with subtle tangerine and marmalade scents that are tightly coiled at present. The palate is medium-bodied with a dash of shave ginger on the entry. There is a pleasing weight in the mouth and relatively fiery finish that lingers tenderly. This is a very satisfying Morgeot. Drink now-2018. Fernand and his son Laurent represent the 4th generation of the Pillot family to farm vines around Chassagne. Their holdings were extended in 1992 and again in 2001 following their absorption of vines from Laurent’s wife, hitherto under the Pothier-Rieusset label. Today, they farm 14.6 hectares scattered around some 22 appellations. Attractive stony character and apricot fruit. Really mineral on the palate too – despite the plump, generous fruit. Really nicely done. (RH)
