This estate has been winemaking since 1992. A total of 70,000 bottles are filled in a typical year. Serralunga soils. Good energy. Lively. Very fresh and transparent with the aroma of bonfires. Notably clean and pure. (JR)

Monforte d’Alba. Backward and intense. The very big, stalky, dry tannin is a perfect match for the richness. Ends on bitter sweet, dry tannin and mocha notes. (WS)
The 2008 Barolo Castelletto is the biggest and richest of these wines. It shows plenty of Monforte character, with layers of mint, menthol, spice, eucalyptus and dark red fruit. The tannins are firm yet there is plenty of muscle in the fruit to provide balance. Layers of fruit build beautifully to the insistent, focused finish.
Mauro Veglio talks about 2008 as a year with a rainy late summer and fall that was especially harmful to Dolcetto and Barbera, but less damaging to the Nebbioli. The 2008 harvest wrapped up in late October. Mauro Veglio describes 2008 as similar to 1998, a comparison I don’t quite agree with, but that is the nature of wine.
