Punteggio 92-94/100 · Da bere 2022-2035, Neal Martin, Aug 2018

The 2016 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru is a step up from the Blanchot – a complex array of scents with green apple, oyster shell and a light sea spray influence coming through. The palate is well balanced with sappy green fruit on the entry, with a clean and precise finish that bodes well for the future. Excellent.

One of the most reserved and serious wines in the range, the 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses offers up notes of dried flowers, beeswax, lemon oil, mandarin and rock salt, framed by light reduction. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, saline and mineral, with a deep, tight-knit core and a long, youthfully grippy finish. It's a wine that will appeal to purists.

Very hazy color, as the wine was moved a week ago from barrel to tank. Lemon, lime, white flowers, stone, anise and fresh herbs on the nose, accented by a spicy element. Fat and dry, offering floral and salty elements but coming across as a bit unformed today, showing more texture than complexity. Boasts plenty of creamy depth from the 61-year-old vines, but this grand cru is very young now.
