The 2015 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata is several steps above the straight Barolo. It offers notable freshness and fine balance. Quite frankly, it's one of the few wines here that truly lives up to the iconic image this tiny estate has garnered over the last few years. As I have written before, much of that is more image than substance in my view, but if anyone has earned a time to shine it is Lorenzo Accomasso. The Riserva offers up a beguiling mix of crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, cinnamon, dried flowers and mint, all in a classically austere, mid-weight style. Dusty tannins bring it all together on the finish. This is a gorgeous wine.
