La Morra. Tasted blind. Quite deep ruby with orange tinges. Huge fruit cake nose at first and a little raisiny with hints of rum. Seems the grapes got quite a lot of sun and the fruit quite a bit of oak. Even if the fruit is a little raisiny, the acidity is quite striking and the tannins ripe and chewy, but I don't think this will have a long future. (WS)

The 2016 Barolo Annunziata Vigna Plicotti is another powerful, dense wine in this range. Raspberry jam, chocolate, new leather, licorice and spice are generous in this fruity, voluptuous Barolo. A wine of terrific depth and density in a lush, forward style, the 2016 is not exactly complex, but it delivers plenty of impact in a heady, exotic style that will be most enjoyed by readers who like potent wines.
