An attractive entry-level offering, the 2008 Barolo Serralunga d'Alba captures the essence of the village in a fairly approachable style. Smoke, incense, tobacco, menthol and dark fruit emerge effortlessly from this gracious, refined Barolo. The 2008 has enough inner sweetness to make it accessible upon release. This is a lovely entry-level offering.

This is a lovely entry-level offering. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. The big news at this estate continues to be Davide Rosso's newly inherited parcels in Vigna Rionda. For now, Rosso has only bottled wines that he found made and aging in cask at the time of his uncle Tommaso Canale's death. Rosso subsequently replanted a major piece of the vineyard, but a parcel with the oldest vines remains in production. Just mid ruby with orange tinge. The typical spicy fruitiness of Serralunga. Peppery too. Compact, grainy tannin. A tough one, but not without personality. (WS)
Serralunga d’Alba. Deep ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Already dangerously evolved nose with oxidative browning apple notes. Two samples tasted. Too long in oak for its own good? Flat finish. (WS)
