Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2036, Neal Martin, Mar 2023

The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru comes from Jacques Carillon's maiden vintage after dividing the family domaine. Clearly, he landed on his feet, no surprise given that he had overseen the winemaking since entering the domaine in 1980. Complex and intense on the nose, this delivers wonderfully-defined crushed stone and sea spray notes, youthful and sophisticated. The palate is fresh on the entry with a superb spine of acidity. Powerful, like many 2010 white Burgundy wines, there is a slightly waxy texture on the finish. I think this could actually improve with continued bottle age. Outstanding.

The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru is perhaps a little cowed by the impressive Puligny Village; it is subdued, considering the vintage, and does not really respond to coaxing. The palate is well balanced with bitter lemon and smoked walnuts on the entry, delivering good weight but missing the charm of the Puligny Village on the finish. I expected just a little more. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2010 white burgundy tasting in London.

A bit wet-woolly and inexpressive. Good acidity and great restraint. Could do with just a little more ripe fruit in the middle. This tastes a bit as though the fruit has been sucked out of it. (JR)

Pale gold with a light greenish streak. Now this is really quite charming on the nose. Well balanced and tight. Lots of matter to chew on. Quite savoury on the end. Quite chewy still – lots of structure and density. Classic and dry – more classic than the 2012. Long and lightly astringent. Very tense. (JR)
