The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Gain is a relatively large-scaled, textured wine. This is total seduction. The Champs Gain impresses for its pliant, mid-palate juiciness, yet there is more than enough minerality to provide freshness and verve. is a striking, wonderfully complete wine. Anticipated maturity: 2013+. It’s impossible not to admire Benoit Ente’s passion and enthusiasm. Ente farms three hectares of vineyards inherited from his father’s side of the family. (His brother Arnaud works with vineyard’s from his father in law’s family). The 2010s were still in malo at the time of my visit. Ente told me he planned to give the 2010s a few additional months in steel, reflecting a move towards a longer aging regime across the board. In the meantime, this is a very impressive set of 2009s.
