(Sauzet's parcel abuts La Truffière): Pale yellow. Subtly perfumed aromas of white peach and stone. Rounder and fuller in the mouth than the Garenne but with lovely brisk acidity giving the wine a light touch. The fruit here is distinctly white, while the Garenne is more yellow, even a touch exotic. This fleshy but minerally wine finishes bone-dry and lively, even a touch youthfully austere.

The 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Champ Gain has a reserved and elegant bouquet, hints of citrus lemon and oyster shell reluctantly emerging in the glass, timid but gaining confidence with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a little more exotic, by which I mean prettier with passion fruit and apricot, but still with fine mineralité. The acidity here drives this Puligny along with a twist of bitter lemon on the saline finish. This should give much pleasure over the next 10-15 years.
(from very old vines in a protected spot on poor hillside soil): Bright, pale color. Musky, leesy aromas of white peach, hazelnut and noble herbs. Dense, fat and sweet; boasts lovely texture and pliancy for a very dry (1.2 grams per liter) wine. Complex, sappy minerality leads to a classically dry finish that conveys a dusty impression of salty extract. Very good stuffing here.
