Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2020-2032, Neal Martin, Jun 2020

The 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru has a much more elegant bouquet than the Clos Saint Jean from Marc Morey tasted alongside, displaying more strictness and linearity, and focused and direct. Granny Smith apples, walnut and just a touch of smoke all vie for attention. The palate is vibrant and tensile, steely and focused, with real edginess from start to finish and a wonderful sapid finish. This is a great white burgundy from winemaker Alex Moreau. Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2010 white burgundy tasting in London.

Pale straw. Quite marked struck-match quality on the nose. Racy and fresh. Really one of the nerviest of these 2010 white burgundies. A style I like, but some with an aversion to reduction might not. Excellent balance and persistence. Light graininess of the appellation. Everything in the right place, provided you don’t mind a whiff of liquorice. (JR)

Some but not excessive reduction on the nose then broad and glamorous fruit on the palate. Very bright fruited and clean. Lively, dry finish – rather Riesling-like in its precision. Need I say more?! (JR)

The 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot is wonderfully alive and vivid in the glass. It boasts intense minerality and brightness along with a personality that is hard to fully grasp today. There is a fabulous element of push and pull between the fruit and the wine's acidity. Smoke, crushed rocks and mint are layered into the explosive, palate-staining finish. The Morgeot is fabulous, but it needs time. A recent bottle of the 2008 was compelling in its pure beauty.
