The 2004 Barolo is a perfumed wine with an attractive inner sweetness to its layered dark fruit. Medium in body, the wine offers lovely balance and harmony in an accessible, straightforward style. Mint, spices, tar and licorice develop as the wine opens up in the glass. The tannins build on the finish, suggesting a few years in bottle will be beneficial in helping the wine come together.

Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019. While these are pretty, well-made wines from Saffirio, I expected more in the way of complexity considering the pedigree of this vintage.
