Note di degustazione
The 1999 Montrachet Grand Cru from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is drinking very well today, offering up a characteristically super-ripe bouquet of honeyed peaches, orchard fruit and marmalade mingled with notions of white flowers and baking spices. Full-bodied, broad and unctuous, with a thickly textural attack and an ample, fat mid-palate, its lavish endowment of sweet, sun-kissed fruit is underpinned by ripe acids. There's no reason to defer gratification.

The 1999 Montrachet is always a bit edgy, which keeps it from entering the realm of the truly sublime. Even so, the best examples, such as this one, show terrific freshness as well as persistence. Overall, the 1999 is a quiet wine, with a little less of everything relative to the finest years. Tasted at the DRC Montrachet charity event in New York.
This pairing of 1999s is one of the highlights of the evening. A fabulous bottle of the 1999 Montrachet from DRC is next. Deep, powerful and phenolic in its impression of weight, the 1999 is magnificent tonight. Hazelnut, pastry and butter are some of the notes that fill out the wine’s ample frame. The 1999 Montrachet is a bold, almost arrogant wine that demands attention. It has mine, that’s for sure.
