Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2016-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jul 2016

The 2005 Barolo Albarella has aged beautifully. Lavender, cloves, mint, new leather and black cherries are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. Vivid and beautifully sculpted throughout, the 2005 possesses superb intensity. The 2005 can be enjoyed today with some aeration or cellared for another decade. This is an especially dark, brooding Barolo.

Good deep red. Reduced, slightly funky nose. Rich, large-scaled and broad but quite reduced and youthfully disjointed, with a distinct gamey quality. But this wine from the village of Barolo also boasts very good concentration and volume and finishes with broad, fine, sweet tannins and very good length. Lay it down or give it a lot of aeration if you plan to open it anytime soon.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2013-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2009

The 2005 Barolo Albarella is soft-textured and generous in its minty, floral aromatics and sweet red fruit. This is another beautifully-balanced wine with elegant tannins and an approachable personality that is showing quite nicely today.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2010-2020, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Apr 2009

The 2005 Barolo Albarella is soft-textured and generous in its minty, floral aromatics and sweet red fruit. This is another beautifully-balanced wine with elegant tannins and an approachable personality that is showing quite nicely today. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. Oberto’s 2005 Barolos are among the softest, most approachable wines of the vintage, yet they offer lovely overall balance. The wines all underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak, where they spent about six months prior to being racked into a combination of smaller barrels (70%) and larger 16-hectoliter casks (30%) to finish their aging.
