Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2014-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2014

The2003 Barolo Garblèt Sué is showing beautifully today. Iron, smoke, leather, anise, crushed rocks and red berries meld together in a tense, sinewy Barolo that impresses for its freshness and persistence. The aromatics are just about to turn the corner into more tertiary notes, but this is another Barolo that has held up well, as the firm tannins have helped preserve the fruit. Ideally the 2003 is best enjoyed over the next handful of years.

Medium red with an amber rim. Scented nose shows dried cherry, dried flowers, brown spices, licorice and menthol. Large-scaled, rich and deep; a step up in texture and richness from the foregoing 2003s. Layered and deep Barolo, with slightly exotic flavors of dried cherry and marzipan. And yet there's something almost elegant about this big, warm wine. Finishes with building, sweet tannins and impressive persistence. Very impressive for the year.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2013-2020, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2007

The 2003 Barolo Garblèt Sué, from the Fiasco vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, is massively powerful, tannic wine that will require considerable patience. this brooding Barolo is packed with ripe red cherries, tobacco, new leather and spices that come to life in a rich, weighty expression of Nebbiolo. With several hours of air the wine softened considerably. Still, it is best left untouched in the cellar for at least a few years.

The 2003 Barolo Garblet Sue, from the Fiasco vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, is massively powerful, tannic wine that will require considerable patience. This brooding Barolo is packed with ripe red cherries, tobacco, new leather and spices that come to life in a rich, weighty expression of Nebbiolo. With several hours of air the wine softened considerably. Still, it is best left untouched in the cellar for at least a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. Brovia remains one of the region’s most overlooked wineries. Readers who enjoy traditionally made Barolos should make a point of checking out this estate, whose wines remain very well-priced considering the quality. During my most recent visit I had the opportunity to taste a broad selection of Barolos from vintages 1996 through 2000 and the wines were simply gorgeous. These 2003s are also successful, although they will require patience and/or significant aeration. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchants, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
