Serralunga d’Alba. Lustrous mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Compact and still closed on the nose. Polished deep raspberry fruit with Amarena-cherry notes with a hint of herbs. Still intense with youthful sweet fruit and well-balanced. The tannins are laid out like a mosaic on the finish. Very long Amarena-cherry finish. Far from ready. (WS)

The 2021 Barolo Margheria, which has a deeper pigment and saturated brick red color, offers more concentration and resinous qualities in the glass. It reveals notes of charred rosemary, dark cherries, fresh mint, violets, and dark stones. The palate is highly pleasurable and pure, with a medium to full-bodied feel, lovely purity of ripe cherry fruit, sweet tannins, refreshing acidity, and an elegant tapering finish. A very appealing selection, it’s showing beautifully now yet has a good deal of life and room to improve with the coming 15 or more years.
Dry and edgy. Lacks a bit of fruit. (JR)
The 2021 Barolo Margheria is dense, powerful and rather somber. Black fruit, lavender, espresso and gravel add to an impression of gravitas. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2021 is an infant. Muscular tannins make themselves known on the finish. This feels a bit raw and not totally put together yet.
