The 2012 Darmagi is a ripper, more voluptuous and sexy wine compared to the 2013. Made from 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc brought up in barrels and larger oak casks, its deep ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by loads of classic Cabernet dark fruits, damp earth, graphite, and obvious minerality. With sweet, polished tannin and plenty of fruit, it’s a pleasure bent, yet elegant beauty that will keep for 15-20 years.

The 2012 Darmagi is striking and radiant in the glass. Dark red cherry, plum, sage, mint, spices and grilled herbs are some of the signatures. Super-expressive and polished to the core, the 2012 is also quite inviting, Silky tannins add to the wine's considerable appeal. in 2012, the fruit is distinctly bright and red-toned, with fewer of the darker, more purplish tones that are often present. The 2012 has really come around since I last tasted it a few months ago. Drink this pliant Cabernet Sauvignon over the next decade.
The powerful and impeccable 2012 Langhe Darmagi is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a tiny drop of Merlot mixed into the blend. The wine is gorgeous and shows extremely well in this warm vintage. It opens to dark penetration and a thickly extracted, but always elegant style. The tannins are very well managed with soft contours and a firm inner crunchiness that adds backbone and determination. Softer layers of cherry and blackberry fuel the long, opulent finish.
