The 2021 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru does not have the bandwidth or complexity of its peers, though there is admirable purity of fruit and it gains mineralité . In the end, you become wrapped up in its charms. Likewise, the palate is constantly meliorating in the glass. Bright red cherries and strawberry notes, lilting in style, cohesive with a flattering almost come-hither finish. This is a delightful silken Volnay that remains within the limits of the season and is all the better for it. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a lovely, pure bouquet with wild strawberry, cranberry and light tertiary scents, the mineralité emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and well-judged acidity; the 2021 is very elegant in style with an airy, poised finish. Alas, just two barrels this year.
The 2021 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is lovely, mingling aromas of cherries, berries and plums with hints of vine smoke in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's layered and nicely concentrated, with a seamless, charming profile.
