The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne (Duc de Magenta) opens in the glass with scents of honeyed pear, white flowers, baking spices and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's fleshy and concentrated, with lively acids and a toasty, oak-inflected finish.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de la Garenne 1er Cru, which comes from cordon-trained vines up to 85 years old, has a very different bouquet from the La Garenne – more tropical tones here, powerful, with peach, grapefruit, and passion fruit. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry with a waxy texture, spicier than the La Garenne. The weighty, concentrated finish lingers in the mouth. No shy retiring wallflower, this will be intriguing to watch evolve in bottle. Excellent.
Cask sample. Heady, almondy nose. Really quite concentrated but with an excellent level of acidity too. Finishes just a little suddenly but most of this wine is pretty impressive, and it will presumably continue to develop. Some chew on the end at the moment. Hint of banana! (JR)

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
