Good medium red. Very ripe aromas of cherry, tobacco, smoked meat and mint. Then huge, round and sweet on the palate. Not yet complex or shapely but delivers a major wave of fruit and atypical fullness for Barbaresco. Finishes very long and ripe, with the serious tannins reaching the incisors.

The 2001 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is another of the more fruit-driven wines in 2001. It is not terribly expressive in its aromatics, yet it comes to life on the palate where it offers notable fullness and sweetness, with masses of sweet cherry fruit and a big, strapping personality.
