14 months in oak, about 15% new. This is the only vineyard where they practise tressage, ie weaving the shoots rather than hedging them. It's a lot of hard work but they find greater ripeness and smaller, more concentrated berries. Intense aroma of ripe but perfectly fresh citrus fruit. Firm, chewy and creamy at the same time, the texture makes this a complex wine. Deep and long. Very good indeed. (JH)

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Grandes Ruchottes 1er Cru comes from a vineyard that undergoes no hedging, known as tressage. The nose is pure and fragrant, with touches of pressed white flowers, clementine and light waxy scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, with a keen line of acidity and a precise, nutty, Meursault-like finish. Bon vin.
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes is superb, mingling aromas of sweet orchard fruit, white flowers and hazelnuts with reductive hints of struck match in an inviting bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, deep and textural, it's dense and pure, with a cool core of fruit and a long, resonant finish. As readers may remember, Pillot is now practicing "tressage" in this parcel instead of hedging the canopy. Of the seven barrels produced, one was new.
