Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2017-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2015

The 2004 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia reveals surprising depth, darkness and resonance for a wine from this site. Dark red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint flesh out in the glass, with silky, exceptionally polished tannins that hold all the elements in the right place. Perfumed and hauntingly beautiful through to the finish, the 2004 is a succulent, deeply expressive Barolo with more than enough vibrancy to drink well for another 15-20 years. Although it is still a baby, the 2004 is just about to enter the early part of what appears to be a plateau of superb drinking that will stretch out for many years.

Rose petal, mint and spice notes open up in the 2004 Barolo Rocche dei Brovia, a wine that is just beginning to open up. Silky and beautifully perfumed throughout, the 2004 is all about balance and harmony. With time in the glass, the aromas become super-expressive while the tannins seem to release the fruit. The flavors remain bright, nuanced and detailed throughout. This is a magnificent showing.

Good full red. Complex, scented nose offers currant, truffle, mint, sage and oregano. Juicy, silky and sweet, with highly nuanced flavors of aromatic herbs and flowers. Not hugely dense but wonderfully expressive today, even if its firm tannic spine calls for patience.

Brovia's 2004 Barolo Rocche reveals considerable depth in its aromas and flavors. The wine offers a typical expression of Castiglione Falletto in its perfumed ripe red berries, fresh flowers and spices, all supported by tannins that are finessed and firm at the same time. This is a poised, feminine Barolo of notable elegance. A touch of sweetness from the French oak lingers on the long finish. The Rocche is typically the most accessible of the Brovia single-vineyard Barolos, as it is again in 2004, yet today it is holding back quite a bit of its potential.
