Punteggio 100/100 · James Suckling, May 2025

Montrachet heaven, balancing on the knife edge between exotic ripeness and forest-air freshness. Lots of enticing lime and vanilla-bean aromas but also a radical mineral energy that lifts the rich and expansive palate, pulling it tight. The finish is incredibly focused and breathtakingly complete. From organically grown grapes. From a 0.89-hectare plot in this world-famous site. Drinkable now but best from 2026.

The 2023 Montrachet Grand Cru is more powerful, offering up aromas of pear, clear honey, vine blossom, buttered popcorn and musky peach, followed by a full-bodied, ample and layered palate that's rich and textural, with terrific mid-palate density and a long, lively finish. Other producers' Montrachets may carry more cachet, but after 10 years in bottle, served blind, it's often Bouchard who takes the crown.

The 2023 Montrachet Grand Cru has a very intense nose that stops you in your tracks. Citrus fruit, green olive, dill and fish scale scents combine beautifully—this is a Montrachet with real personality. The palate is medium-bodied with perfectly judged acidity. Intense yet paradoxically graceful, there is a proper crescendo on the finish, with fantastic salinity and persistence. Impressive.

Medium deep lemon. The nose only barely suggests what is to come. The Montrachet shows massive opulence up front with golden fruit and peaches, then a wall of tension, then suddenly it seems to stop, only to start again and continue on the second half of its journey. A little hard to read in its extreme youth, but I suspect that this will make a very fine Montrachet. Amazing length, all registers of fruit.
